How to Relax (Part 1)

Writer's picture: Sophie Bostock, PhDSophie Bostock, PhD

Many of the people I work with seem to have brains permanently stuck in the 'on' position.

One of the things that can help with a more restful sleep is practising the art of relaxation. It doesn't need to be complicated - but you do need to allow time to do it regularly. The aim is to make it easier to switch out of 'fight or flight' mode, and into 'rest or digest' mode.

This is a simple 2 minute exercise you can do anywhere. I recommend practicing for 10 minutes during the day, then repeat just before bed. (If you repeat in your own time, you might want to set an alarm for 10 minutes.)
